Tanja Andrews of Freshtopia.net, here. I'm on my couch, again. I'm wearing red, again. And once again, I am talking about a holiday.

<p>El último episodio fue el Año Nuevo Lunar. Y esta vez, el amor está en el aire.</p>
<p>Last episode it was Lunar New Year. And this time, love is in the air. </p>
<p>La historia del Día de San Valentín y de su santo patrón está envuelta en el misterio apócrifos(escritos religiosos del Viejo Testamento), y nosotros aquí amamos el misterio y los apócrifos.</p>
<p>The history of Valentine's Day and its patron saint, is shrouded in mystery and apocrypha, and we do love mystery and apocrypha here. </p>
<p>Una de las leyendas más populares nos haría creer que el Valentín original fue un sacerdote practicante en Roma alrededor del 270 D.C.</p>
<p>One of the most popular legends would have us believe that the original Valentine was a priest, practicing in Rome around 270 AD. </p>
<p>Y alrededor de esa época el emperador romano Claudio II, decidió que solamente quería hombres solteros en su ejército.</p>
<p>And around that time, the Roman Emperor Claudius II, decided he wanted only single men in his army. </p>
<p>Esto no fue algo de no preguntar, no decir. Él simplemente se imaginó que serían mejores soldados...</p>
<p>This wasn't a don't ask, don't tell thing. He just figured that they would be better soldiers...</p>

<p>When his actions were discovered, however, Emperor Claudius was totally angry and had him put to death. </p>

<p>In another version, Valentine actually sends the first Valentine himself. </p>
<p>Mientras está encerrado en una rigurosa prisión romana, se enamora de la hija de su carcelero...</p>
<p>While trapped in a harsh Roman prison, he falls in love with his jailer's daughter...</p>
<p>...y antes de ser ejecutado, envía una carta, que firma, "De tu Valentín". Una expresión que vive hasta el día de hoy.</p>
<p>...and before he's executed, sends her a letter, which he signs, “From your Valentine.” An expression that lives on to this day. </p>

<p>Lo que sabemos, es que Febrero ha sido durante mucho tiempo una época para el romance.</p>
<p>What we do know, is that February has long been a time for romance. </p>

<p>In Ancient Rome, February marked the official start of spring, and was a time for purification and renewal. </p>

<p>And this was a fertility festival, dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture. </p>

<p>During this festival, all the young men would...and all the young women would...and nine months later...and then a few years later...</p>

<p>De acuerdo con la Asociación de Cartas de Felicitación, se estima que se mandan cada año unas mil millones tarjetas de San Valentín.</p>
<p>According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine's Day cards are sent every year. </p>
<p>Esto hace del Día de San Valentín la segunda mayor ocasión de envío de tarjetas, segunda solamente tras Navidades, y, ésas son un montón de tarjetas.</p>
<p>This makes Valentine's Day the second biggest card-sending occasion, second only to Christmas, and, that's a lot of cards. </p>
<p>¿Por qué no mostrar a la Tierra que usted también la ama escogiendo envíar una tarjeta hecha de papel reciclado, o incluso mejor, una tarjeta electrónica?</p>
<p>Why not show the earth that you love it too, by choosing to send a card made from recycled paper, or better yet, an e-card? </p>

Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers. It's for celebrating friendship, family love and the fact that affection is for everyone. And because most of us need love or some sort of affection to survive. We need to remember the people who are important in our lives as our couples, friends, family, lovers and acquaintances.
